Borrell's Putin warns: EU must take its nuclear threats seriously

  • Josep Borrell, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said the EU should take seriously Russian President Vladimir Putin's threats that he could use nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell made important statements to the British media regarding Russia's declaration of partial mobilization and Ukraine's holding of referendums in 4 regions.

Borrell said the EU must take seriously Russian President Vladimir Putin's threats to use nuclear weapons, adding that the war had reached a "dangerous moment."

"This is an absolutely dangerous moment, because the Russian army is stuck in a corner. Putin's response to the threat of using nuclear weapons is really terrible."

"WHEN PEOPLE SAY IT'S NOT A 'BLUFF', YOU HAVE TO TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY"

Borrell recalled Putin's speech in which he said that his country has various weapons of mass destruction and will use all the tools at his disposal, in which he stated that this is not a bluff, "When people say it is not a bluff, you have to take them seriously." Borrell said that a diplomatic solution that protects Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity must be reached, adding, "Otherwise we can end a war, but peace cannot be achieved and another war will break out again."

WHAT DID PUTIN SAY?
''In his speech, Putin stated that Western countries and the Kiev administration often threatened them with nuclear attacks, including bombing the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, and said, "They engaged in nuclear blackmail. To those who allow such statements about Russia, I would like to remind you that our country also has various methods of destruction, and in some of its components it is more modern than that of NATO countries. Of course, we will use all the means we can to protect our country and our people. The West is trying to destroy our country. The West does not want Russia-Ukraine peace. In its time they divided the USSR, now it is Russia's turn. Our goal is to liberate Donbass. We use all kinds of weapons to protect our territorial integrity. I tell the West, we have a lot of weapons to respond to. This is not a bluff."
